Literary Reykjavík
Reykjavík City Library hosts literary walking tours in downtown Reykjavík every Thursday in July and August. Icelandic literature, from the Saga period to newly published books, is introduced at various stops by an actor and a literary critic.
The actor, Darren Foreman, performs bits from novels, short stories and plays, as well a reciting poetry, and the critic, Úlfhildur Dagsdóttir, tells about the authors and the connection of text and place.
This walk suits everyone, as it is at an easy pace. It is a fun way to get to know Icelandic literature with a bit of history mixed in. The program takes about an hour and a half.
Literary Reykjavík is free of charge over the summer but the walk can also be booked for groups at other times throughout the year for a fee of ISK 30.000.
Arnaldur Indriðason Crime Story Walk:
We also offer walking tours focused on Arnaldur Indriðason's crime stories. He is without a doubt Iceland's best known crime writer. These walks are only offered for groups, and need to be booked in advance. The fee is ISK 30.000 per group.
